"Righty" hole
descriptions for blue tees:
(pictures coming soon)
1) Shakedown Street: This medium-length par 3 features a very tight tree gap just off the tee and plays slightly uphill and longer than 315 ft. listed. Getting close to the basket requires either a flip hyzer "S" shot or a sidearm. Once the initial gap is navigated, getting par is fairly easy. Getting a birdie, however, is somewhat difficult.
2) Music Never Stops: This par 4 is the longest hole on the course and is a difficult birdie to get. The tee shot offers a wide gap that sweeps left or a very narrow straight route. To get optimal placement using the wide gap players will use either a sidearm turnover shot or a sweeping hyzer with a "stable" driver. After an excellent drive, players will have several shot choices to reach the picturesque green, the most prominent being a wide, sweeping left to right shot. It is fairly easy to make par on this hole with conservative play. Agressive play, however, can make double-bogey or worse a possibility.
3) West L.A. Fade Away: Players that walk away from this hole with anything more than a 2 on this short hyzer hole will probably be muttering in disappointment, but it's really not a gimmee and 4 actually does figure into the equation. There is a tight gap to hit fairly close to the tee and discs need to flip up slightly and bank the corner to get "parked".
4) Good Morning Little School Girl: Hands down, this tight medium-length par 4 is the toughest hole on the course. While a birdie 3 is very possible with two sweet shots, there's absolutely no shame in playing smart to decrease the odds of a big number here. The drive requires a medium-power backhand "S" shot to safely reach the landing zone. Depending on placement, the second shot will either be another backhand "S" or a straight shot with a slight fade at the end. Birdies on this hole will be celebrated, pars will give a great sense of satisfaction and bogeys won't feel all that bad. The rest of the players will leave this hole lamenting "why didn't I play it smarter?"
5) Not Fade Away: This hole is as straight-forwad as they come on The Magnolia. A slightly understable mid-range or fairway driver thrown with just a touch of hyzer should do the trick to get close for a putt. This hole presents a pretty easy par and a great chance for birdie, don't let the opportunity pass you by.
6) Space - Drums: The tee shot on this par 4 offers an easy hyzer to a fairly big landing area or the opportunity to crush a forehand and take 60-80 ft. off the length of the second shot. After placing a drive in the fairway, the second shot will offer a variety of options. Getting a birdie on this hole will require two good shots, but is very much within the realm of possibility. While a bogey is very much a possibility, getting double or worse on this hole will most likely be chalked up to excess greed.
7) China Cat: There are two routes on this par 3, both of which have right to left flight paths. There's a low, inside route played with or without a skip and a very high, wide, sweeping bomber shot. Pick your poison, make your deuce, cuz you gotta get 'em while the gettin's good.
8) Attics of my Mind: You'll find it no coincidence that the distance listed on this "evil" hole is 666 ft. As with Good Morning Little School Girl, many players will leave this hole muttering "why didn't I play it smarter". The tee shot is uphill to a crest and then sweeps left. There's a very safe play to leave the disc up on the crest by the red tee, but it's a BOMB from there to get into putting range. Getting too aggressive off the tee, however, can leave a player with a less than desireable lie.
9) Standing on the Moon: After having negotiated a pretty tough stretch of holes we've thrown y'all a bone with this hole. A generous gap frames the fairly straight downhill ace run. Have fun and take a deuce while it's handed to you.
BE SURE TO VISIT THE COUNTRY STORE IN BETWEEN NINES FOR SNACKS AND COLD BEVERAGES! :)
NOTE: All the holes on the back nine feature dual basket locations. The "A" settings and the "B" settings alternate in difficulty to create a similar overall degree of difficulty for the course in the two settings. i.e. Hole 10's "A" position is shorter than the "B" and hole 11's "A" position is longer than the "B", etc.
10) Playing in the Band: As with the rest of the holes on the back 9, this hole features two basket locations. This hole is short and tight, but plays a bit longer uphill. Position "A" can be reached with a straight forehand that finishes to the right or with a backhand hyzer. Position "B" is dead straight and offers a fun ace opportunity for those that put enough mustard on the dog.
11) Candyman: Named for the somewhat candy-cane shaped fairway, this short par 4 offers a very good birdie opportunity in the shorter "B" position and a fairly tough birdie in the longer "A" position. The drive requires either a forehand or a turnover backhand. Placement off the tee is critical to setting up a good birdie opportunity.
12) On Down the Line: This short par 4 features a palmetto "bunker" in the middle of the fairway just as the fairway takes a pronounced turn to the right. Having cleared the "bunker" and placed the disc in the fairway, the second shot is a short finesse play. Players that fail to take advantage of this birdie opportunity will be kickin' themselves walking to the next tee.
13) Cosmic Charlie: The longer "A" position requires a bit of creativity to get "parked" but will yield many birdies from 35 ft. The shorter "B" position is the easiest birdie on the course, don't miss it!
14) The Wheel: This hole plays as a medium-length par 3 in the short "A" position, requiring a sweeping left to right shot that flattens out. The same drive thrown to the "A" position will leave a short finesse shot to set up an easy birdie on the short par 4 "B" position.
15) Dark Star: As with The Wheel, this hole changes par with basket locations, only the letters are reversed. The short "B" position is a par 3 that requires a straight shot that finishes hard to the left around the corner. The same drive thrown to the "B" position will leave a short finesse shot to set up an easy birdie on the short par 4 "A" position.
16) Here Comes Sunshine: Named for the break in the tree canopy over the green, this short par 3 has two technical locations. The best route to "park" the "A" position is a high left to right to left stall shot. The "B" position requires hitting a tight gap with a short hyzer shot. In either position, you'll want to get a deuce on this hole.
17) Sugar Magnolia: Home of "The Magnolia", this par 4 requires an uphill drive through a moderately tight gap that finishes left. Once safely in the fairway, the second shots to both basket locations are straight with a couple guardian trees to avoid. You'd sure like to make a birdie 3 on this hole, but it's not guaranteed.
18) Crazy Fingers: The Magnolia Course concludes with a tricky, short par 4. The short tee shot must navigate several trees and wind up with a good lie to allow a run-up for the second shot. After reaching the landing zone, the hole takes a 45 degree turn to the right. The second shot for the shorter "A" position will be essentially straight and the route to the longer "B" position requires a hyzer with a bit of sweeping bank.
